NemoOrange's 7th pack
Updated final release. Here are the minor changes:
Set up first frame gradient clear in blossom
Enabled clicking for selecting boxes in fabric
Updated Alpha release. Here are the changes:
Removed three previous preset from pack dissolve, dissipate, chrysanthemum because they were slow & boring & nobody liked 'em anyway.
Added two new preset fabric & pipedream
Renamed & scenery preset to amc. It wasn't an intro preset, its just a title. I didn't like the lettering stuff either.
Fixed, edited, sped-up various presets. All thanks to your comments.
New installer using pipedream theme.
Please note that this installer will extract all the presets to the same folder which the original used: avs/NemoOrange/scenery. The installer will not uninstall dissolve, dissipate, chrysanthemum & therefore, you will still see them in the folder. Don't worry, they're not in the pack anymore.

I was quite stunned when I saw these beauties.
So fast, so simple, yet so amazingly supreme in style!
Loved ivy symphony and shadowplay. The latter is outstanding for me.
Got a little melancholic comparing these simple "avs-flowers" to my own over pimped up, flashy, effect piling, slow thingies.

I really like this pack as a whole when compaired to alot of el-vis/UCD wannabes out there at the moment but I've got a few niggles which I cover first so you get a warm glow from the end of this comment. 'floors' and 'fabric' don't seem visually simple enough; and as a result stick out from the rest of the pack distracting from the visual purity of the designs. The same goes for 'amc' which could have some horizontal p.o.v. moment added to spice it up.
I'm enjoying the whole vibe of '45' which would look great as a background for all those overly trendy wine bars (I'll suggest they get it the next time I'm in my favourate cellar bar) as well as 'balloons' the simple perspective effect works really well. 'Symphony' looks really good and reminds me of BBC4's between program graphics. 'Ivy' has a unique stylistic effect I haven't seen done that well in avs. 'blossum' kind of trendy retro stylings, but hey still original enough for me to like it.
A great attempt to create a bold graphic style.
Peace

i changed my opinion
btw. i liked chrysanthemum even though the new preset are better (esp. fabric)
so you still have some time to fix blossom for fullscreen ^^
instead of the "first frame only" clear screen, use a normal one inside an effect list (Ignore/Replace)
put the following code into it:
lw = w; lh = h; enabled = 1 - band(equal(lw, w), equal(lh, h));
this way, the clear screen is not only done on the first frame but also on resolution change (when the user rightclicks the avs window and selects fullscreen, like I did
Well the new stuff is of course great, and good idea to remove those three presets. But i still can't understand why won't you use texer II? Or are you saving all those presets to the final megapack?
Pipedream would look so much more smoother & better with texer II's i think...
Time for a
45, Blossom (although the responsiveness is fairly low), Popples (gotta love that letterbox stylization), symphony (captures the principles of the pack well)
Some of the colours could do with a rethink for presets like dissapate and dissolve, and although ivy is a good concept the jittery fadeout and jagged curve edges lose it a bit for me.
I agree with coned about putting the intro first rather than stumbling accross it in the middle of the pack, as for your 'mission statement' , you must have known people were going to kick up a fuss about anti-code sentiments. As a programmer one of the most exciting aspects of AVS is the ability to explore complex programming principles in a simple enviroment. AVS lets me play with complex geometry and visuals in code the way a child plays with lego, and thats what I love about it.... you dont want to take that away from me do you? I try to vary my packs, but I'll be the first to admit that other people do music response and pleasing visuals better than me, but so what? I make packs to share the fun I have making AVS, I make them for me more than the people who view them.
Why would you say "Stop treating AVS less like programming and more like art" ? By taking a medium and telling people what to use it for surely your going agin the very principles of art you are preaching in favour of! How would you feel if someone made a technical pack and wrote "Stop treating AVS like a moving canvas and more like an experiment in programming" ? I bet you'd feel pretty outraged that someone was trying to tell you how to use AVS.
"AVS is art.", how about "AVS is whatever you want it to be"
Anyway, I understand your concern, but dont share it.
Good pack, that was my original point wasnt it?
well, atleast i want to say that this pack is very unique, cause it is not for everyone, just for the dudes that is not like me... sorry, that's just my opinion, and it's just honest.
Dissipate: I think you should change the movement or album you should make it a dynamic movement.
Floors: Some resolutions screw up the texture. I run 256x169, and there's a distracting line on the pattern.
Mizaik: Some values, like sin(t2)*.4, can be calculated in frame for a minor speed boost.
Wow, this pack rocks. I would love to work on a remix pack and I think I'm not alone.
blossom
ivy (amazing preset, love it)
shadowplay
symphony (love how it all works together, very fun to watch and the interactive thing wth the mouse is pretty cool)
i can only suggest more variety in terms of shapes, i saw many presets with squares in them. stuff like 'ivy', curvy and sexy
+fav!
45 Nice colors and reaction, I'd change the movement to something like
d=if(above(abs(y),.8),asin(d*10),d*.5), because the border is to big in
some resolutions
balloons Change in color over time would be nice, for the rest its ok, a bit boring maybe
blossom Just beautiful, awesome fps, love it
crysantemum Not my taste, I don't like the colors
dissipate Definately dont like this one, it doesnt fit in with the rest of the pack
(stylish and square vs messy), the colors are bad IMO. A bit noobish preset
disspove same story as dissipate
floors nice idea. It could be sped up by putting te ssc sand movs in an
effectlist with a buffersave, then turn on effectlist override with the following
code in it:
enabled=bnot(band(equal(ww,w), equal( hh,h)) );ww=w;hh=h;
and put the source in the DM on the buffer. This gives a 40% fps boost, and
looks just the same.
isotimescope awesome, pure visualisation at its best
ivy excellent movement and colors, and really fun to watch
mizaik guess i'm not a tonic fan
popples The borders look cool, but the scopes are a bit boring
shadowplay: very stylish, but the mous controlled scope should have a mirrored copy on
the y-axis
symphony very chaotic, in a very, very good way
Great: blossom!, IVY!, 45, mizaik, shadowplay, floors, isotimescope, scenery
Dont like colors in dissipate, dissolve and chrysantemum (maybe that is me?).
Cool idea with the ascii art but could be more smooth! Try doing like this in the effect list:
b=if(above(b,5),0,b+1);
beat=equal(b,0);
enabled=1;
and remove custom bpm and set movement to y=-2 in the frame event. Also using the terminal font gives a more stable frame rate (e.g. not true type).
1. I love the concept of this. FPS is a essential thing in AVS. Presets with high fps are so much more fun to watch since the music reaction is great and fast movements are smooth.
2. For presets speeding up / reacting with the volume of music I suggest this running average setup by synth-c and improved by me:
fdelta = frames to build the average
bufstart = first buffer to store the values for average
mval = music value used for average
INIT: bufstart = 50
FRAME:
mval = getspec( 0.4,0.8,0 );
fdelta = 100;
fc1 = ( fc1+1 )%fdelta;fc2= ( fc1+1 )%fdelta;
assign( megabuf( fc1+bufstart ), mval);
tot = tot + megabuf( fc1+bufstart ) - megabuf( fc2+bufstart );
speed = tot / fdelta;
45 - Amazing. Great style and response. Love it!
balloons - cool but something is missing, perhaps some size changes
blossom - Nice retro style. Like it! But since my music input is very high the big hexagons tend to fill up the whole screen in one color.
dissipate - hm, do not know. Didn't like the colors.
dissolve - like dissipate. I think I agree with some others that these two need a little workover?
floors - very stylish and cool colors. Perhaps add some dynamic things in var size.
ivy - love those curves but I think would like it better in b/w
miziak - great fullscreen preset
popples - love it like 45
shadowplay - oh yeah what a wonderful simple but effective setup. Style at work.
symphony - cool, reminds me of these first vector 3d-games. Fun to watch
chrysanthemum - Great
isotimescope - Like it! I wonder how these would look using my slowmotion-SSC setup
scenery - too good to "just" be an intro but could remove the text myself
the simplistic approach is stunning and is really good
but i would say that a preset like dissipate & dissolve is my taste but still,
i dunno. the ideas is great but it needs something extra,
floors is really eyecatching, just because of it's stylishness and play with alpha
ivy also stands out, but the only flaw is that the curvationlines looks bad in fullscreen
shadowplay is also very magnificant,
these presets are of great artistic value while not being toooo abstract
my fav in that pack is "symphony", in fullscreen of course
